The Institute was created in 1991 to promote regional development by establishing a link between University activity and the requirements of the public and private production sectors of La Araucanía Region.
The work of the Institute focuses on six main research areas: soil chemistry, wastewater management, agricultural production, agricultural processes, food technology and molecular biology. These have been defined as the pillars of agro-industrial development. As result of its work over time, the Institute offers the community a wide range of R&D, technical assistance, training and laboratory services. Its laboratories are certified to relevant standards.
